Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is permanent makeup training?

Permanent makeup training teaches you how to safely apply cosmetic tattoos using techniques such as microblading, powder brows, lip blush, and eyeliner. At Pretty In Ink, training includes color theory, skin anatomy, sanitation, live-model practice, and business guidance.

Can I enroll without previous beauty experience?

Yes—no beauty license, tattoo experience, or prior training is required. Our courses are designed for beginners who want hands-on learning and certification.

How long is the PMU training course at Pretty In Ink?

Our full-course consists of approximately 100 hours: around 40 hours of theory and home study, and 40 hours of live training on models, plus 20 hours of follow-up support after graduation

How much does training cost and when is payment due?

Training costs around $5,500. A $1,000 deposit is due at registration, with the remaining balance paid at least seven days before your start date

Is there financial aid or grants available for PMU training?

Yes—Pretty In Ink is a state-approved PMU training provider. Many students qualify for Nevada WIOA (Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act) grants, which can cover up to 100% of training costs

What are eligibility requirements for WIOA funding?

To be eligible, you typically must be a Nevada resident, 18 or older, and either unemployed, transitioning careers, or meeting low-income thresholds. Out-of-state applicants from CA, AZ, or UT may also qualify depending on local workforce agency rules.

Where do I apply for WIOA funding?

Nevada applicants can visit EmployNV Career Hubs like:

  • Reno: 4001 S. Virginia St.

  • Sparks: 2281 Pyramid Way

  • Carson City: 1929 N. Carson St.
Staff will guide you through eligibility assessment and application.

How long does the grant process take?

Once your application is submitted, approval typically takes 1–3 weeks. After funding is confirmed, you can enroll—often paying little to nothing out of pocket.

Does Pretty In Ink teach lash line enhancement?

No—our certification program focuses on brows, lips, eyeliners, and machine-based PMU techniques only. Lash line enhancement is not offered.

Do you offer training or services from home?

No. All training and client services are completed at our licensed commercial facility in Reno, NV. We do not operate out of private homes or unlicensed spaces.

What kind of career opportunities can I build?

Graduates typically launch independent PMU businesses, rent salon suites, or incorporate PMU services into existing beauty roles. We offer ongoing mentorship and help with business setup and licensing.

Do I get a license or certificate after completing training?

Yes. After completing your training at Pretty In Ink, you’ll receive a State of Nevada-recognized Certificate of Completion. This is required to apply for your Body Art Tattoo Artist License, which allows you to legally perform PMU services in a licensed commercial space.

Will I be confident enough to work on clients after the course?

Absolutely. We’re committed to your success. You’ll train on live models, get real feedback, and receive ongoing support from our team even after graduation. We don’t let you leave until you’re confident doing services on your own.

What days and times is training held? Can I pick my schedule?

Our training is typically structured over 6–7 days, with flexible start dates each month. Courses are offered during daytime hours, and we work with students’ schedules as much as possible. Call us to find a training week that fits your needs.

What do I need to bring or prepare for class?

We provide all essential tools and a full student kit for your training. You’ll just need to bring yourself, wear black, and be ready to learn. We recommend a good night’s rest and an open mind—no experience is needed!
